In the mornings, we have four classes in our school:
Nursery and Reception;
Year 1 and Year 2;
Year 3 and Year 4;
Year 5 and Year 6
This means we have small class sizes in the mornings for the teaching of reading, writing and maths. For phonics, Reception to Year 2 split into even smaller groups for the first part of each day, so that we can match our phonics teaching to each child's stage of learning and phonic knowledge.
In the afternoons, we have two classes:
Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2;
Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6
We have lots of adults to support the children in their learning in their mixed age classes in the afternoon, and our curriculum is organised in cycles so that children can build on skills and knowledge as they go through school. For some subjects, the children split again into smaller pairs of year groups, depending on what is being learnt.
